Ronald L. Turk

Ronald L. Turk, age 65, of Janesville, WI died April 14, 2016 at Mercy Hospital with family and a few good friends by his side. He battled cancer for the past two years but was brought down by a series of strokes over the past few days. He was born on July 28, 1950 in Richland Center to Donna Sorum Turk and Keith Turk. He married Maya Gurumg June 7, 2007 at their home.
He attended elementary schools in Soldiers Grove and Janesville, graduating from Craig High School in 1968. He attended UW-Rock County and UW-Madison. Ron worked at McFarland’s Pheasant Farm and at several Eagle Foods grocery stores. He worked his way up to store manager at the last store. He worked at the Fraser Tubing Hill in Colorado for seven years. Only months after starting there, he became manager of the operation until he left. While living in Fraser, he became an ardent skier, making trips back to ski most years including this March, when he went out with two good friends and was met by his brother, David from Dallas for one grand, last ski trip with cribbage games in the evenings. Ron had an import business from Nepal and India for many years. It was in Nepal where he met his wife, Maya.
Ron had several very close friends he made adventuresome trips with. Starting in 1971 with a summer bicycle trip in England and Scotland, he also backpacked in Nepal and New Zealand. More backpacking trips took him to the High Sierra, the Cascades and Rocky Mountains. He took many canoe trips to Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario. Some of those trips spanned several weeks. Fishing and photography were part of the daily routine in the vast wilderness devoid of any motors. Ron’s love of nature was evident of his beautiful garden while bird feeders brought well over a dozen species of birds on a regular basis. He passionately loved nature and shared that passion with others. He had a very big heart, great sense of humor and loved to play cards and frisbee.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald and sister Karla Sampson. He is survived by his loving wife, Maya; sister, Cheryl Asmus, Edgerton; brother, David (Sudha) of Dallas; sister-in -law Lois Turk, Milton; brother-in-law Alan Sampson, Janesville; friend and business associate Noga Turk, Janesville; nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Family and friends will miss Ron dearly. A celebration of life services will be held in the future.
